These school districts have announced closures due to Tropical Storm Debby

As Debby looms, certain Early Colleges, summer school programs, meal distribution programs and more are being canceled.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Tropical Storm Debby is looming over the Triad with severe weather implications on Thursday, Aug. 8.

In response, several school districts have announced the cancelation of summer programs for Thursday and possibly Friday.

This list is subject to change as updates roll in.

ALAMANCE-BURLINGTON SCHOOL SYSTEM

  • All Early College students will be remote learning on Thursday, Aug. 8 and Friday, Aug. 9.
  • The school system will be closed for students in the Read to Achieve Summer School.
  • The Read to Achieve Summer Camp will have a makeup day on Monday, Aug. 12.
  • Non-congregate meal pick-up in the Eastern Zone is canceled on Thursday, Aug. 8.
  • Middle and High School athletic practices, scrimmages, and workouts scheduled on Thursday and Friday are canceled.

ASHEBORO CITY SCHOOLS

  • All student activities scheduled for Thursday have been canceled.

GUILFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS

  • All GCS schools in operation will be closed on Thursday.
  • All district and school activities, including band and athletic practices, summer learning and summer meal distribution are canceled on Thursday.
  • Summer graduation will continue as scheduled.

LEXINGTON CITY SCHOOLS

  • All schools will be closed to staff and the public on Thursday. All school buildings will be closed and access will be restricted
  • Open Houses scheduled for Aug. 8 will be rescheduled

ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOLS

  • All Orange County Schools sites and facilities will be closed on Thursday

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY SCHOOLS

  • All Rockingham County Schools will be closed on Thursday
  •  All school activities, child care, and summer feeding & meal distributions are also canceled on Thursday
