GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — There's no doubt that 2023 has been a huge year for the Triad, with several large companies and industry leaders calling the Piedmont Triad home.
Not only will this create economic boom in the area, these companies will also create jobs for the people living here or looking to move here.
The first one we'll focus on is Toyota's new battery plant. It was first announced it was coming to the Triad in 2021. It will be the carmaker's first battery plant in North America and is expected to bring more than 5,000 jobs to the area. Construction of the plant is still ongoing but according to Toyota, production of Toyota batteries are set to start in 2025.
New additions near PTI are also making waves. Both Boom Supersonic and Marshall Aerospace specialize in all things air craft.
Boom supersonic focuses more on faster-speed commercial flights, while Marshall Aerospace focuses on repairing military-grade air equipment.
According to Boom Supersonic, their jets will be able to carry up to 80 passengers at twice the speed of today's jets. it wants to build by 2025 and carry passengers by 2029. The company plans to hire more than 2400 employees by 2032.
As for Marshall Aerospace, it is the latest company to put roots down at PTI, with groundbreaking for the company just taking place in September. Although there is a lot more construction that needs to take place, the company says it will look to hire more than 200 employees from mechanics to human resources. The company also says it's dedicated to the recruitment of veterans.
Advancements and investments in education are also around the corner, Guilford County Schools have shared more information on it's facilities master plan, which calls for safety and technology upgrades to all district schools. the district plans on rebuilding 22 schools on existing sites and fully renovating 19 schools.
GCS plans on moving students around to different schools so the learning doesn't stop while construction goes on. There are multiple schools currently under construction and set to re-open in 2025.
More jobs and opportunity for education are amazing for the Triad but we all need to have a little fun too, Topgolf is also coming to the Gate City. The driving range will have 72 outdoor climate-controlled hitting bays spanning two levels. The business is also expected to employ roughly 300 people with the projected opening set for late next year.
