RAMSEUR, N.C. — "To know Mario was to love Mario!"

Jessica Ferguson remembers her 15-year-old son, Mario Lara, who was killed in the crash that also took the life of 17-year-old Tyler Franklin, and injured Macie Maness, and Sarah Edwards.

The four teens all attended Eastern Randolph High School.

Ferguson said Mario was the kind of kid that would help a friend before he helped himself.

"He was a very smart kid and a talented athlete," she said.

Ferguson said she's still processing his death.

"This is going to be a definite struggle everyday but I would like to thank every one from the bottom of our hearts for everything," Ferguson said.

"I love him and no matter what his memory will live on forever and ever."

The funeral service for Mario Lara will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Edwards Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Liberty.

Tyler Franklin's funeral service will be held Wednesday at Parks Crossroads Christian Church at 3 p.m.

Macie Maness is home from the hospital recovering and Sarah Edwards is still at the hospital recovering.
