MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — A boy honors the legacy of K-9 Draco.
The boy, Michael, ran one mile while carrying a blue line flag on Sunday, Nov. 17 to remember K-9 Draco. The run took place in Florida, which is Michael’s home state.
K-9 Draco was shot and killed after a pursuit happened in Mount Airy in mid-October.
The Mount Airy Police Department called K-9 Draco a hero in an online post about his passing. Many law enforcement agencies, including the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the Burlington Police Department, shared their condolences about the loss.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time,” the Burlington Police Department said in a comment on the post.
A service to honor K-9 Draco was held on Friday, Nov. 1 at the Blackmon Amphitheater in Mount Airy.
Running 4 Heroes, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to honor fallen first responders and support their families, uploaded a video of Michael’s run to their Facebook page.
The nonprofit organization is encouraging others to join Michael and run one mile in honor of K-9 Draco.
