MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — A suspect who was armed died after there was a pursuit in Mount Airy on Wednesday, Oct. 16, according to a statement from the city of Mount Airy on their Facebook page.
The suspect was located by police in the Flatrock area.
The Mount Airy Police Department said K-9 Draco was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend the suspect.
"K-9 Draco died a hero and will be deeply missed," the Mount Airy Police Department said in an online statement.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office also shared their condolences about the loss.
"Sending our condolences. Rest in peace brother. You are a hero," the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said in a comment in response to a Facebook post from the Mount Airy Police Department.
Police said they are still investigating the incident, and our news team is working to learn more details about what happened.
