REIDSVILLE, N.C. — The wet weather isn't done with us yet, and now it's starting to cause problems. Heavy rain sitting over the northern Piedmont for too long Tuesday afternoon and evening is causing flooding that's only likely to get worse as more rain moves in the rest of the right.
A narrow band of rain is causing this rainfall, meaning in other parts of the Triad - everything is fine! We are most concerned about Stokes, Surry, and Rockingham Counties going through the evening. Although other counties could be impacted as well.
What's the forecast?
This narrow band of rainfall has been sitting over the same areas but it may shift some for the rest of the evening. Expect heavy rain to continue in waves through midnight in Rockingham, Stokes, and Surry Counties.
In Guilford, Alamance, and Forsyth counties this band could shift farther south toward late evening bringing some heavy rain.
Be alert for flooding - which could get worse before it gets better.
This rain will subside after midnight and toward morning.
How much rain fell?
As of 6pm Thursday, a widespread area of 2 to 4 inches of rain fell in the counties that border Virginia. This is estimated by radar. This amount of rain all fell within a short timeframe of less than six hours. That's too quickly for it to drain easily.
What's the impact?
Bottom line. Don't drive through flood waters. Remember, you can't always see how deep the water is.
Heavy rain has fallen, and more is expected through late evening and overnight.
It's best to get home and stay home. Weather will be better in the morning.
