GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's one intersection with a world of problems: Bass Chapel and Air Harbor Roads near Lake Jeanette. Guilford County neighbors want more changes, calling this a dangerous intersection.
Greensboro Police responded to another crash there on Monday. They say a driver was turning onto Air Harbor when an oncoming car hit her.
Last summer, the North Carolina Department of Transportation made changes to cut down on crashes, but some neighbors just aren't satisfied.
"It's just kind of a hazard there," said Joel Miller.
He's not the only one to describe it that way.
"It's just scary because you feel like the wrecks are going to keep happening if somethings not done about it," said Holly Herring, who also lives nearby.
Last summer, state DOT made a few minor improvements following a significant crash, putting down new road markings, and putting up new signs.
"We wanted to bring the intersection in more at a 90° so you would have to slow down and it would be more of a right turn," said DOT engineer Dawn McPherson. She says, this was done with paint, rather than realigning the actual road.
McPherson said speed continues to be a big problem there, and many people make assumptions at the Bass Chapel Road stop sign.
"People are just assuming that [other drivers] are going to take that right and go down Bass Chapel and they don't. They go straight [on Air Harbor]," she explained. She says that's how crashes there happen often.
NCDOT is actively trying to figure out whether improvements will help. However, they still need funding. Then, they'll know more about when changes might happen.
