Greensboro club owner arrested by ALE agents after shooting outside business

The ALE said the Greensboro club owner faces three misdemeanor charges and was fined $32K for being over occupancy the next day.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The owner of a Greensboro nightclub faces charges following a shooting outside his business.

A public information officer with North Carolina's Alcohol Law Enforcement confirmed ALE agents arrested 41-year-old Bobby Bullins, of Eden, on Sunday.

The ALE said Bullins didn't have adequate supervision at his club, Electric Tequila, and there wasn't enough done to stop or prevent fighting that led to a shooting. He faces three misdemeanor charges as follows:

  • Allowing affray to occur on the licensed premises
  • Allowing controlled substance violations to occur on licensed premises
  • Failing to superintend a licensed premises

ALE said Bullins chose to turn over his ABC permits to special agents three days after the shooting.

Greensboro's Mayor told WFMY News 2 there is a slim chance the Bar and Grill can re-open again.

"The ABC commission in Raleigh will require a letter from GPD. The police department will have to sign off on whether they agree with an ABC permit going back in that place," Mayor Nancy Vaughan said.

Next door McKinney Sew & Vac is replacing another window following the shooting. The storefront has lived on Battleground Avenue for over 40 years.

"I have to have my tint redone and my graphics redone with the numbers." manager Blake McKinney said.

"All of that is going to have to be replaced and it's probably going to be a couple of thousand dollars in damages I have to pay out of pocket."

Several storefronts neighboring Electric Tequila told WFMY News 2 that the owner being arrested brings them joy.

"I hate that it took what happened for them to do something. I'm just happy the steps are being taken to shut them down and find someone another neighbor," McKinney said.

Police responded to dozens of shots fired outside of Electric Tequila early Saturday morning. Surveillance video obtained by WFMY News 2 showed people running and ducking for cover as gunshots went off. Two people were shot but are OK.

The business opened the following day. Greensboro police said that night the business was fined $32,250 for over capacity.

As far as the shooting investigation, GPD hasn't made any arrests.

GPD said so far this year, they've responded to 46 calls to Electric Tequila.

The City of Greensboro has filed a civil nuisance abatement lawsuit which could require the club to close permanently. Nuisance abatement proceedings are handled by City Legal.

Electric Tequila was opened the day after the shooting as well.
