Eden community rallies behind teen who lost his arm in ATV accident

A Rockingham County business is organizing a fundraiser for Morehead High School football player Trooper Wright.

EDEN, N.C. — In Eden, the community is showing their support for Morehead High football player Trooper Wright, who had his left arm amputated following an ATV accident.

Santana's Mexican Restaurant is selling to-go plates for $29.99 to support the Wright family.

"Just knowing that your child is hurt, to every mother that just stabs you in the heart. And to know that there is family and friends and people who may not even know you, it just uplifts you a little bit more," said Amanda Flores, owner of Santana's Mexican Restaurant.

Healing takes time and a village.

"Trooper and his family are friends of ours in a church over at Osborne. We've known Trooper since he was a kid and he is a super great guy and has a strong faith. We just want to come out and support," said Chris Powell, a family friend of Trooper Wright who came out to buy a to-go plate.

"We are happy to help. He's a good kid. Trooper is one of those people that you always hear about and like how much he like, loves his friends and is a very servant for God," said Anne Thomas, a neighbor who came to support the cause.

Family friend Annabella Flores told WFMY News 2's Taylor Leverett she found out about Trooper's accident while on her way to dance class.

"I texted my mom and I was like, 'Did you hear about Trooper? Like, is he OK?' Because like, I didn't know what had happened. And then I saw something that he had got into an accident and that his mom's prayer was to pray that he was just going to be able to keep his left arm," she said.

Flores said Wright is a big believer in his faith and his community.

"I just pray that we raise a lot of money for him. I know that God has great plans for him and I love his strong faith and how he's not getting upset at the Lord, even though he probably has a lot of feelings right now. But I would just probably tell him to stay strong and that it's going to be ok and that his community loves him and to keep serving the Lord," said Flores.

Custom shirts are also being sold on Trooper's behalf that show the high school athlete's dedication to football and faith. The red shirts are adorned with his football number, the Morehead High mascot and his favorite bible verse, Joshua 1:9.
