WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — UPDATE: Winston-Salem police said the driver of the semi-tractor with a trailer Mustafa Manena, 22, is charged with Failure to Stop at a Steady Red Light and Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle.
He was released and is scheduled to appear in court April 2.
A deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle shut down a portion of a road in Winston-Salem Wednesday, according to police.
The Winston-Salem Police Department said around 2:13 p.m. officers were called to the scene of a crash on Peters Creek Parkway and Silas Creek Parkway.
When officers arrived, they found 37-year-old James Daniel Williams, the driver of a 2002 Honda motorcycle with life-threatening injuries.
Officers said Williams died after arriving at a local medical facility.
The driver and the passenger of a semi-tractor with a trailer were not injured.
After an investigation based on witness statements and evidence, detectives determined the tractor-trailer was traveling west on Silas Creek Parkway and failed to stop at the red light in their direction of travel. Williams was traveling south on Peters Creek Parkway with a green light in their direction of travel, crashing into the tractor-trailer.
The Winston-Salem Police Department said the westbound lanes of Silas Creek Parkway from Peters Creek Parkway to Salisbury Ridge Road were temporarily closed to traffic.
