Community support continues after 16-year-old was in life-threatening car crash

Caleb Dulin, a Triad teen who was badly injured in a car crash, has been in the hospital since Halloween.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — As the Dulin Family spends another night at the hospital, High Point community members gathered at Rixster Grill, all in support of Caleb Dulin. Although he's not in critical condition anymore, he's on a long road to recovery.

When Craig Ceresi, Owner of Rixster Grill, first heard about what happened to 16-year-old Caleb, two questions came to mind.

"How can we help? What can we do?" Ceresi said. He hosted a fundraiser at Rixster Grill in High Point to help the teenager's family pay for medical bills.

"It's a new year, it's a new deductible… So, our goal is to at least make that deductible tonight," Ceresi said.

Caleb is the son of a High Point Police Officer. He's been in the hospital since Halloween when he got into a car crash. He suffered life-threatening injuries. Police still don't know what caused his vehicle to lose control.

High Point Police Major Matt Truitt said the Dulin Family has never left Caleb's side.

"He's never been alone during any portion of any of this, since October 31, someone has been in his room 24/7, and we're talking from October 31st and on," Truitt said.

Through all the heartbreak, Major Truitt says things are looking up for Caleb.

"Caleb's condition has drastically improved over the past couple of weeks," Truitt said. He's no longer in critical condition, he's able to read, and is working on movement and talking.

There's still a long road ahead and local business owners like Ceresi feel the need to help.

"The community is what makes my business successful, without the community, we don't have a Rixster Grill, so for us, we have to give back some way, some how," Ceresi said.

Once Caleb is well enough, his family hopes to move him to a facility in Atlanta for brain and spinal rehab.

Major Truitt told WFMY News 2's Nixon Norman that the restaurant raised $8,600 by the end of the fundraiser. That's $600 dollars above the restaurant's $8,000 goal.
