GREENSBORO, N.C. — The City of Greensboro said they want to clarify the facts in response to recent reports alleging former City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba violated personnel policy.
The city did not initiate an investigation into any purported violation of personnel policy by the City Manager. Consequently, without an investigation, no determination can be established regarding any alleged breaches of personnel policy. Furthermore, the City of Greensboro is bound by strict protocols and state statutes regarding personnel privacy. As such, the City is legally unauthorized to disclose details surrounding the resignation of the City Manager or provide verification on the circumstances prompting his departure. The City of Greensboro remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in all aspects of its operations.
Jaiyeoba resigned as city manager Tuesday, according to the city council, who accepted his resignation.
On Wednesday, Mayor Vaughan shared that Jaiyeoba violated an internal policy that other employees have been fired over. Because it's a personnel matter, she can't discuss it.
Mayor Vaughan said the city council learned of the violation last week, so the process moved quickly.
It comes amid a growing controversy over releasing bodycam footage related to the incident at Jaiyeoba's home.
Police responded to Jaiyeoba's home for some sort of dispute involving him and his two daughters. Officials said Jaiyeoba was hurt, and his daughters were not. No charges were ever filed, according to police.
It's not clear exactly what happened.
