UNC Asheville starts-up remote learning today

This week the university plans to roll out a staggered move-in schedule for residence halls.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — This morning UNC Asheville is starting up virtual learning classes.

This comes after the unexpected interruption of the Fall semester after Hurricane Helene

Julie Everhart is a parent of a UNC Asheville student, she said the past few weeks have been a whirlwind.

When Helene hit September 30th, she lost contact with her daughter Jozi Renken for 24 hours. Jozi eventually made her way home to Denton.

It's Jozie's sophomore year, Everhart is concerned about the learning disruptions effect on academics long-term.

"It's gonna be remote for the rest of the semester and that's kind of rough with the classes that she's taking. If she doesn't have a comprehension of what's going on now, I think it's gonna cause problems later on with her future classes," Everhart shared.

She understands that some situations like Helene are out of anyone's control.

The university is working to bring students back to campus. On Wednesday UNC Ashville is starting up a staggered moving-in schedule for residence halls.

At this time, the university said students should plan to only use bottled water It said late next week The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will install a mobile water facility.
