LEXINGTON, N.C. — Davidson County deputies said the man they believe is connected to both a Virginia Drive shooting in Lexington and a church break-in was arrested on Old Greensboro Road at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Zackary Lee Plowman, 39, is accused of shooting three people on Virginia Drive in Lexington at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Bruce Hayes owns the jewelry store across the street and saw the action through surveillance video.
"I was watching it through my cameras," he recalled. "There was around 100 people out there in police cars."
Hayes says he rents out the property where investigators responded.
"These people were very nice," Hayes said. "I've noticed particularly they're careful with the way they operate around their house. I've never had any problems with them whatsoever."
Police and deputies believe Plowman then fled the scene in his car and abandoned it north of Lexington.
Plowman is suspected of then breaking into the Community Fellowship Moravian Church where he stayed the night, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.
In the morning, deputies said the suspect held the pastor and his wife at knifepoint and kidnapped them in their car.
Deputies said Plowman released the two of them on City Lake Road, near Sink Road.
Deputies found the ditched car on Jd Essick Road and believe the suspect ran from the scene.
He was located by a K-9 unit about eight miles from where investigators found the stolen car.
Plowman had a warrant for his arrest concerning the Virginia Drive shooting, for three counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony flee to elude.
Regarding the alleged crimes at the church, Plowman faces numerous charges, including breaking and entering a place of worship, larceny after breaking and entering, robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor larceny.
Police said the three male victims in the Virginia Drive shooting are being treated at a local hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
