Woman witnesses Mount Airy murder while running errands

A Mount Airy woman and her mother were Christmas shopping and running errands when they saw first responders rushing to a gas station.

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Haley Gallagher and her mom were Christmas shopping and running errands when they pulled up on the beginnings of a crime scene

"Me and my mom both were super somber, and we were just like we could feel the energy and it completely just shifted our mood for the day," Gallagher said.

She recalls seeing a body lying by a gas pump at Mayberry Mart in Mount Airy

"First thing in the morning, just trying to get your day going, half-awake honestly, still trying to get your coffee in you and something like this happens," Gallagher explained.

She and her mom saw the body of Agustin Alberto Villaloin Luna who police said was shot in the head at this gas station, Wednesday morning.

"I just don't understand what would make a human want to do that to another human," Gallagher exclaimed.

Police said after the shooting, the suspect Austin Hawks took off. Investigators found him and arrested him just over an hour after the shooting.

Gallagher said this isn't the norm in Mount Airy.

"It's a very quiet. The quaint little gas station is no different than your ordinary small-town gas station. Nothing crazy happened, until this morning," Gallagher said.

Running across this morning's shooting reminds Gallagher to be grateful for everything you do no matter if it's mundane or not.

"I would live every day like it is your last. I know that sounds cliché, but it is so true because you never know you could just be up in the morning getting gas and it could be the last thing you do," she added.
