DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — A Davie County Sheriff's deputy resigned after being charged with a DWI hit-and-run crash, according to officials.
Sheriff Hartman said Hannah Whittington was separated from the sheriff's office on June 18 after an internal review.
Whittington chose to resign, according to the sheriff.
On June 11, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash happened on Highway 158 in Davie County.
Troopers said Hannah Whittington turned onto the highway in a pickup truck from Millings Road, crossed the center lane, and hit a truck.
She then drove off and hit another truck head-on after she crossed the center lane again, troopers said.
Both crashes happened within a minute of each other.
Whittington went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
She was charged with DWI, hit-and-run, and driving left of center.
According to the Davie County Sheriff's Office, Whittington was driving her personal vehicle at the time of the wreck.
She had eight years of service with the Davie County Sheriff’s Office and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
