Man charged second-degree murder in deadly US-52 rollover crash

Winston-Salem police said 19-year-old Victoria Brown died in the crash on December 22.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police said a suspected drunk driver now faces a murder charge in a deadly US-52 crash that happened last month.

Police arrested 23-year-old Codey Phillip-Wayne Jones on Tuesday at his home. He's charged with second-degree murder, driving while impaired, and careless and reckless driving.

The crash happened on December 22 on US-52 near Akron Drive. Investigators said Jones hit another car, lost control, and flipped his vehicle several times. Jones and his passenger, 19-year-old Victoria Rose Brown, were thrown from the vehicle. Police said they found Jones underneath his car, but Brown died on the scene. Officials said neither of them were wearing seat belts.

Investigators said the other car did not remain at the scene.

Jones is in jail under no bond allowed.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
