High Point man charged after November crash on I-74 that killed woman from Tennessee

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A High Point man has been charged with multiple crimes related to a crash on November 8 that killed a woman from Tennessee on I-74.

According to the High Point Police Department, officers responded to I-74 E at Eastchester Drive just before noon on Nov. 8 when they found 67-year-old Janet Edkins dead at the scene after the driver of a Toyota van crashed into her while she was either "stopped or driving slowly" in the middle lane of I-74.

A passenger in Edkins' car was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Forty-three-year-old Om Naing Tam of High Point has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and unlawful use of a mobile phone.
