DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — A Davie County Sheriff was charged in a DWI hit-and-run crash Tuesday, June 11, according to officials.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said it happened on Highway 158 in Davie County.

Troopers said Hannah Whittington turned onto the highway in a pickup truck from Millings Road, crossed the center lane, and hit a truck.

She then drove off and hit another truck head-on after she crossed the center lane again, troopers said.

Both crashes happened within a minute of each other.

Whittington went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

She was charged with DWI, hit-and-run, and driving left of center.

According to the Davie County Sheriff's Office, Whittington was driving her personal vehicle at the time of the wreck and has since been suspended pending an internal review.

She has eight years of service with the Davie County Sheriff’s Office and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.

This investigation is ongoing.
