GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police released bodycam and dashcam video from a deadly officer-involved shooting on Randleman Road in June 2023, where police found a man wielding a machete in the area.
The district attorney cleared the officers of any wrongdoing in the shooting.
GPD said it released the footage to be transparent about what happened. All of the videos related to the incident are on the Greensboro Police Department's YouTube page.
The shooting happened on June 30. Police said they got a weapons/firearms call on Creek Ridge Road and Randleman Road. When they got there, officers said they found a person with a large knife and a machete.
Officers said they tried approaching the man, who then began running away and refusing commands to stop. Police said they tried using pepper spray and a taser as well, and the suspect still did not stop.
The chase ended at a BP parking lot. GPD said the man advanced at officers with the knives, and that's when three officers fired their guns, hitting him.
The man was taken to a hospital, where medics declared him dead upon arrival.
