No charges to be filed in 2 deadly officer-involved shootings in Greensboro, DA says

Two officer-involved shootings happened within a week of each other in June 2023.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The district attorney's office announced no charges will be filed for two deadly officer-involved shootings in Guilford County.

In the first case, investigators said a Greensboro police officer shot Graham Roberson, 51, who was walking on Tuscaloosa Street in June.

They said Roberson walked up to Officer John Corrigan's patrol car and pointed a gun at the officer, prompting the officer to shoot from inside his cruiser.

The weapons were later determined to be a black semi-automatic-looking BB gun and a silver toy revolver.

The man later died at the hospital.

The second officer-involved shooting was about a week later.

Officers chased after Ernesto Ruiz, 41, who was armed with a large knife and machete.

They used pepper spray and a taser multiple times on him, but he continued to run.

Officers surrounded him in a BP parking lot on Randleman Road.

The DA said Ruiz hit the hood of a patrol car with the blades. Ruiz allegedly started charging at the officers after given commands to drop the weapons.

Officers Johnathan Greene, Gage Kirkland, and Andrew Muldowney fired their guns at Ruiz.

He was struck multiple times and taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
