GREENSBORO, N.C. — Community members said they are fed up with gun violence plaguing their city.
Gate City Coalition is asking for at least a 30-day cease fire.
Together, they want to promote love over violence and gathered on Vance Street.
"It takes a village, the entire community to keep this crime down in the neighborhood," Gate City Coalition Outreach Worker Supervisor Star Mecca Parham said.
It partnered with local resource organizations to connect neighbors with help.
"We offer a program that does healthcare, we offer clothing and school supplies," President for Heath Community Yoletha Young said.
"It's my job to make sure young adults of Greensboro have some safe and equal opportunity to play," CEO of Greensboro Streetball Sports International Kenneth Flade said.
The push for change comes as Greensboro Police are investigating its 11th homicide of the year.
"We are asking for a cease-fire, as well as take responsibility for your community," Gate City Coalition Program Coordinator Ingram Bell said, "At one point when did it become ok for our elders to be wounded or our children?" she questioned.
Whether it was the spray of gunfire at Electric Tequila last year, or a deadly shooting at Culture Lounge a few weeks ago.
Community members said the gun violence has to stop. This comes after a deadly shooting on Vance Street this week. It killed a grandfather and critically injured his wife and toddler grandchild.
"The community is not OK with the shootings that are happening in the city," Bell said.
The Gate City Coalition said they plan to host more community driven events in the near future.
