GREENSBORO, N.C. — One person is dead, and two others are injured after a shooting on Vance Street Tuesday night, Greensboro police say.
Officers said 71-year-old Robert Franklin Wright died at the scene. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
Wright's wife was hospitalized and a toddler, their grandchild, was also listed in critical but stable condition.
"They said his grandbaby was shot twice, that’s a shame. Whoever did it needs to pay for that. They need to pay for it anyway, but to shoot a child, and just a baby in the backseat, in a car seat, come on. How ruthless can you be," explained one neighbor after learning the toddler had been shot.
Officers don't believe this was random. They confirmed that the couple and toddler were in a car outside a home when they were shot.
The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. Police said they found three gunshot victims - two of them with life-threatening injuries.
Neighbors who live in the area said they are shocked this happened. They said that street is typically quiet, with no issues.
One person explained, "the neighborhood is like a family, and it’s filled with a lot of good people. You have your bad elements too, but this street is more or less been immune from all of that.”
Police haven't identified a suspect at this time.
The investigation is ongoing. If you have information that can help, call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
