HIGH POINT, N.C. — Business Owner Kissie Stroup says making a salad is not complicated.
It starts with lettuce., your favorite toppings, and the best part for her— the salad dressing.
"My grandmother used to make salad dressing and everything was homemade," Stroup said.
Inspired by family tradition, Stroup began making her own salad dressings. She created and boxed up flavors she made in her kitchen.
In 2011, the High Point native opened Little Black Dressing Company.
Today, her dressings are in stores across the country. And they've even drawn the attention of the United States Golf Association who reached out to Stroup via email twice.
"I thought I was getting pranked. I thought the family was sending me something and I didn't respond for a long time."
Thankfully she did because Stroup was picked to be the official salad dressing for the 2014 US Open Golf Tournament and now the 2024 Tournament in Pinehurst, North Carolina on June 10-16.
Four of her flavors—Dreamy Creamy, Honey Dijon Dill, Ranch, and Far East Flair will be up on the menu this summer
And just as creating the dressing was trial and error, starting a small business was too.
"The food industry is very cutthroat. It sounded fun and interesting at first but then you realize you get into the business side of it and it's very competitive, but it's been a lot of fun," Stroup said.
Stroup's dressing offers a different taste—homemade rather.
The thirteen different dressing flavors are made with fresh natural ingredients, gluten-free, and mom approved.
"For me being a stay-at-home mom, I know that not every mom stays at home at work after a long day if they want to give their kids something that's healthier and taste like something that they made at home themselves they can get this," Stroup said.
Stroup hopes being featured at the tournament will be a recipe for success for the business.
