The city of Greensboro has decided to stop picking up personal yard waste bins and carts. Find out why!

As of July 1, 2024, the city of Greensboro will no longer collect personal yard waste bins/carts.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Happening today, the city of Greensboro will no longer accept yard waste in personal containers. This change is part of a larger shift in yard waste rules this year.

Friday was the final day that the city's solid waste and recycling department collected yard waste from personally owned yard waste containers.

You've got three options for your yard waste, you could can it, bag it, or bundle it!

If none of the alternatives are for you, you may dispose of your personal containers by calling the City Contact Center at 336-373-CITY and scheduling for the container to be picked up as bulk trash.

Personal Yard Waste Container Reuse and Disposal Recommendations

On July 1, the city will no longer collect yard waste from personal containers. Residents should instead use the city-issued, 95-gallon gray yard waste container. Here’s what you can do with your personal container. So, what do you do with your yard waste?

REPURPOSE IT

Residents are encouraged to keep their personal containers for reuse. City crews WILL collect up to two, 32-gallon personal containers worth of household construction debris on your bulk collection day. Keep each under 50 pounds.

TRASH IT

If none of these alternatives are for you, dispose of it by:

  • Calling the City Contact Center at 336-373-CITY and scheduling for the container to be picked up as bulk trash
