Beyond Sports NC help Triad students to get the sports gear they need

You can help too! The group is accepting donations for gently used sports gear for Triad student athletes.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — You can't play a sport without the proper equipment. A local group is helping student athletes in the Triad get the sports gear they need at no cost to them!

Beyond Sports NC provides gently used sports equipment to Title One schools in the our area.

We caught up with Mike Kennedy, co-founder of Beyond Sports NC and Nicole Cirillo, Community Engagement Director at Beyond Sports NC. They shared how important it is exposing kids to sports at a young age.

"It's such a great opportunity to use that sports equipment as an opening to connect with a child and have their first interaction with a police officer be a positive and and leaves them with something they love to do," said Kennedy.

"I did sports myself at the collegiate level for so long so now being able to give back and start that process of what it can do for kids is really exciting," said Cirillo.

"We bring out college students as our volunteers and so to give kids these mentors and these role models that are not that much older than them that are either playing sports or just in school, but they come out and they play with them and it's just really an awesome connection between working hard on the playing field and then also working hard in the classroom," said Michaela Amidon, co-founder of Beyond Sports NC.

Their Mission

To help bring opportunities and resources to youth and schools to get more kids involved in sports by eliminating the financial barriers of sports by providing equipment, play opportunities, resources for coaches and mentors. We believe that connecting kids into sports at a younger age connects them in with a social and physical activity that provides life skills that can carry them through adolescence and BEYOND.
