GREENSBORO, N.C. — People who work and live around west Greensboro are tired of their power randomly going off. While it seems to happen mostly on Fridays, the power company says it's just a coincidence.
Swivel Barbershop said for the past few Fridays, the lights have been turned off during their hair appointments. Owner, Chase Lewis described the moment.
"They instantly think they just lost all their hair--that they're going to be bald cause we can't see. It's instant their whole facial expression changes and then as soon as they see that we're used to it. They feel a lot better," said Lewis.
Since it felt like a pattern, some barbers even blocked off their Friday mornings and made preparations.
"I went and bought a few headlamps. So, we throw the headlamps on, and we keep cutting," said Lewis.
Since the power went off this Wednesday morning, both Swivel Barbershop and nearby Mario's Pizza weren't expecting it.
Damian Arroyo said it went off in the morning while they were prepping for the lunch rush.
"When we got here to work, we got here at 10 a.m., and then at 10:40 a.m. the power goes out, alarms go off, and everything," said Arroyo.
With no power, they had to close their doors and turn customers away.
"We have some customers that get a little upset. We have a lot of regulars and they come in for their lunch break. When they show up and we can't serve them then, they have to find something else to do for lunch," explained Arroyo.
Duke Energy said there have been multiple outages within the area over the past few weeks, but it's just a coincidence that some have taken place on Friday morning.
A Duke Energy spokesperson said the outage on Oct. 27 happened when contract crews hit lines. The outage on Nov. 3 happened when a car crashed into a pole and Wednesday's outage is still under investigation.
Duke Energy said they're making improvements within the area to make the grid stronger in hopes of avoiding future outages.
