GREENSBORO, N.C. — Building off the success of the organization's "Women Build" event, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro has announced plans to hold a "Pride Build" from October 5-12.

According to Habitat, this build "unites local LGBTQ+ community members, allies and future homeowners to work side-by-side on the build site, fostering inclusivity, collaboration and a shared vision for safe, affordable housing."

An opening ceremony for the project will happen at 8:30 a.m. on October 5 at the build site at 1707 Tucker Street in Greensboro.

"Habitat Greensboro is committed to creating housing opportunities that welcome and include everyone," Christine Byrd, Chief Development Officer of Habitat Greensboro, said in a press release. "Our Pride Build highlights the importance of collaboration within the community and provides a platform to unite allies and the LGBTQ+ community to address critical housing needs."

According to Habitat for Humanity, 22% of LGBTQ+ adults live in poverty compared to 16% of non-LGBTQ+ individuals. Also, only 49% of LGBTQ+ community members own homes, down from the national average of 65%.

Earlier this month, Greensboro hosted its annual Pride Festival and saw thousands of attendees flood into the downtown area.
