Hops Burger Bar co-owner dies, business partner confirms

Co-owner of Hops Burger Bar, David Essa, has died. He was 49 years old.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Triad is mourning the loss of the co-owner of a popular restaurant.

David Essa, the co-owner of Hops Burger Bar in Greensboro, died Wednesday morning, according to the co-owner Chris Martin. 

He was 49 years old.

Martin said his partner Essa had suffered complications from diabetes. 

Hops Burger Bar opened its first restaurant on Spring Garden Street 11 years ago. Tripadvisor later ranked the restaurant the #1 burger restaurant in the country. Hops has another location on Lawndale Drive in Greensboro.
