GREENSBORO, N.C. — Major renovations are underway at the former Triad Stage site at 232 South Elm Street.
The plan, according to Downtown Greensboro, Inc., is to turn the location into a "top-tier music venue in the heart of downtown Greensboro."
Among the planned upgrades coming to the theater is an increase in capacity from 300 to 800 guests. The hope is these changes will transform the space "into a premier music destination with a strong focus on both the patron and artist experience."
“We are excited about this milestone in the revival and re-imagination of this unique cultural asset into a state-of-the-art concert venue for our community,” said Zack Matheny, President and CEO of Downtown Greensboro, Inc. “We are grateful for the local ownership group’s vision and commitment to further enhance the creative vibe and burgeoning arts scene in downtown Greensboro. We are confident that this will be a true community asset that will attract visitors to our bustling center city from near and far.”
Triad Stage closed its doors in June 2023 after putting on more than 140 mainstage productions across 20 seasons. Last December, the building was purchased by a group of local investors with ties to the arts community in a hope to revive the iconic location.
In May, the production company 7 Cinematics announced they were working out of the building.
