CASWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A tornado hit the northern Alamance County / southern Caswell County area Thursday evening around 8:20 p.m. due to elevated risk created by Hurricane Helene.

According to National Weather Service doppler radar, debris was lofted into the air. This was seen right along Hwy-62 in northern Alamance County right near the Caswell County border.

From there, the storm continued north for a period of time toward Anderson in Caswell County.

"We're able to see debris lofted into the air by using a specific mode on our radar system," said WFMY News 2 Chief Meteorologist Tim Buckley. "It was clear that this wasn't just rotation, it was a tornado causing some damage."

It's unclear how much damage was caused, how strong the winds were, or how long it was on the ground.

Remember, we have a risk of tornadoes as parts of Hurricane Helene move through the area on Friday. Please be alert.
