WFMY News 2's Amber Lake shares how she found a route home from Asheville

Our news team traveled to Asheville to cover Helene's impact on western NC.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2's Amber Lake was in Asheville on Friday reporting on Helene's impact on western North Carolina.

She shared more in a Facebook post about how our news team was able to find a way home from Asheville.

Here's how our crew made it out of Asheville:

  • We started on 240 West.
  • Made our way down to 19 and 23 West.
  • Took the upward road to Hendersonville (exit 53).
  • Then turned left onto Spartanburg Highway.
  • Turned left on 25 North to 26.
  • Exit 8 onto 26.
  • Exit 67 to Columbus.

Lake said the route is not a quick one, and it will take you a few hours. There were a few places to get gas in Hendersonville, according to Lake.

We will keep you updated with more information about road conditions and open emergency shelters in the aftermath of Helene.
