GREENSBORO, NC (WFMY) -- Gordon is hitting the Gulf Coast, striking the Mississippi and Alabama border directly at close to hurricane strength. The wind and rain won't last too long, as the storm will quickly trek north and west through Wednesday.
As of Tuesday evening, Gordon was nearing the coast of Alabama and Mississippi as a strong tropical storm. Areas like Dauphin Island appear ready to take a direct hit. The storm is small, but potent, with max winds estimated around 70 mph. Rain will be heavy throughout the night along the Gulf Coast, creating flooding. Storm surge is also a concern for the Alabama beaches especially.
Hurricane warnings are posted for Alabama and Mississippi with Tropical Storm Warnings for parts of eastern Louisiana. It does appear that Louisiana will be spared the worst of Gordon.
