Tropical Storm Beryl Forms; Might Not Last Long

Beryl Becomes the Second Storm of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season

ATLANTIC OCEAN -- Tropical Storm Beryl formed in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean Thursday, only the second storm of the 2018 Hurricane Season so far. It's expected to move westward this weekend, but may quickly fade away as it battles harsh winds.

As of Thursday afternoon, Beryl was located in the open Atlantic, more than 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. The storm will continue to track westward toward these Caribbean Islands into the weekend, but it has a tough road ahead. As it gets closer to the islands, harsh winds are expected to start to tear the storm apart.

This is the first tropical system in more than one month. Back in May, Tropical Storm Alberto formed in the Gulf of Mexico and moved into the Southeast US, bringing deadly flooding to many states.
