Debby's aftermath: Areas in the Triad still flooded

Just like the WFMY News 2 Weather Team has said, we saw about 3-5 inches of rain across the Triad Thursday.

DANVILLE, Va. — Lots of rivers across our area are at high levels after Debby hit the Triad Thursday.

Flooding at the Haw River isn't uncommon when we get a lot of rain, but the levels it rose to Thursday and Friday were something to an eye on.

Haw River Assistant Police Chief Brian Phillips said the city allowed for a voluntary evacuation to protect residents from some potential flooding dangers.

A state of emergency was also issued but has since been lifted. Spectators made their way to the Triad to the river for themselves.

The Haw River was expected to rise over 30 feet, it now sits at a little under 20 feet.

The Dan River is no stranger to high water levels, also rose but did not cause as many issues as we've seen in the past.

Driving around near the Dan River, there was one closed road due to water in the roadway and some pretty high levels.

Just like the WFMY News 2 Weather Team has said, we saw about 3-5 inches of rain across the Triad Thursday.

The water trickles into streams which feed into these rivers. That's what causes them to rise even a day or two after the rain stops. The Haw River is expected to be at normal level in the next couple days.
