Strong storms, damaging winds blow through Piedmont Triad

Damaging winds hit the area Monday bringing several tornado warnings.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Chances are you woke up Monday nervous about the severe weather that moved through. The WFMY News 2 Weather Team was on top of it, and tracked the storms as they move our way.

TIMELINE:

  • 12am - 3am: Scattered showers, a few storms. Most aren't severe. Winds pick up, gusting to 30-40 mph.
  • After 3am through 9am Monday: line of storms tracks closer, and eventually moves through North Carolina. This is the time frame we're concerned about damaging wind gusts and possible tornadoes. Widespread downed trees and power lines are likely in spots. This time frame may change, so stay weather aware. Gusts can exceed 60-70 mph in storms.
  • After 9am Monday: Storm threat ends, but high winds continue. Gusting 30-50 mph throughout the day as the sun comes out.
