Several neighborhoods in the Triad remain icy and difficult to drive in

One Winston-Salem man cleared his driveway in about three hours Monday, but the iced-over hill to get out of his neighborhood left him stuck inside.

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — Schools and parents aren't the only ones having to deal with icy roads, many neighborhood streets remain covered across the Triad.

"It's actually just like we've been back up north, I mean we never expected this," Jesse Fortier said.

Fortier and his wife moved to Winston-Salem in April. While they lived in Rhode Island for years, they weren't ready for this winter storm.

"We heard that you get 6 to 8 inches a year, you know, and so seeing the storm come in we were like wow, and the rain and the ice and all that like I said when we moved here we left our four-wheel-drive up north," Fortier said.

Fortier cleared his driveway in about three hours Monday, but the iced-over hill to get out of his neighborhood left him stuck inside.

"We haven't even tried because watching the other people try to get out while I was shoveling the driveway, I saw many cars come out and try to go up the hill and as soon as they get halfway up there they start to fishtail," Fortier said.

Randy Britton with the City of Winston-Salem said their crews are working non-stop.

"We realize people want to get out of their neighborhoods and we will get into those neighborhoods and treat those streets as quickly as we can," Britton said.
