WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — Wikes County Schools will be closed Tuesday, while Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, according to the school districts.
County officials are still assessing conditions at schools in the wake of Helene, which ripped through much of western North Carolina on Thursday and Friday.
Many areas of Wilkes County, which neighbors Surry County, were flooded as a result of the storm, including this area on Wilkesboro Ave. that a WFMY News 2 reporter captured Friday.
