GREENSBORO, N.C. — Tropical storm Ian will bring heavy wind and rain to the Triad. It's possible our area could see some power outages. We can expect rain to start as early as Friday morning or later Friday afternoon.

8 p.m. -- Tree falls on Mebane family's home during storm

Hurricane Ian brought heavy rainfall and strong winds across the Triad Friday causing power outages and knocking down trees.

A family in Mebane is working towards recovery after a tree fell on their home.

6:15 p.m. -- 21,616 power outages in Guilford County, 17,411 in Wake County, 10,358 in Orange County, 6,908 in Forsyth County, 2,976 in Randolph County, 2,914 in Alamance Co.

3:05 p.m.-- Power outages down to 35,000! Still a huge number of people sitting at home in the dark! 

3:00 p.m.-- WFMY News 2's Chief Meteorologist Tim Buckley will be live with the latest update as Gov. Cooper reports four storm-related deaths.

2:00 p.m.-- Four people have died in NC from storm related deaths.  A 25-year-old man in Johnston County, a 24-year-old woman in Clayton, and a 22-year-old man in Martin County died from car related accidents during the storm. A 65-year-old in Johnston died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator running in his closed garage. His wife has been hospitalized.

1:40 p.m.-- Duke Energy reports power outage update. 35,000 in Guilford, 12,000 in Forsyth, and 5,000 in Randolph are without power.

12:00 p.m.-- WFMY News 2's Meteorologist Ed Matthews will be live at noon with the latest update as 36,000 people are still sitting in the dark in Guilford County. 

11:00 a.m.-- Power line catches fire in Randleman neighborhood.

10:22 a.m.-- The North Carolina Zoo is closed to the public due to storm damage. While there is not severe damage to the zoo, there is leftover remnants of the storm that the facility is cleaning up before they open again. The zoo will reopen on Monday, October 3 at 9 a.m.

10:00 a.m.-- WFMY News 2’s meteorologist Ed Matthews gives an update as remnants of Ian leaves behind storm damage and power outages.

8:00 a.m.-- WFMY News 2's meteorologist Ed Matthews gives an update on Ian as thousands are without power in Triad.

6:40 a.m.-- Light showers expected for Saturday.

6:20 a.m.-- Thousands of power outages in the Triad after Ian blows through. 50,000 in Guilford, 15,000 in Forsyth, 7,000 in Alamance and 6,000 in Randolph are currently without power.

11:00 p.m.-- The worst of Ian is moving out of the Triad early Saturday morning. 

10:14 p.m.- Street lights are out on Summit Avenue between Phillips Avenue and Bessemer Avenue in Greensboro.

10:01 p.m.-- 200 downed trees reported in City of Greensboro. 

10:00 p.m.-- WFMY News 2's Chief Meteorologist Tim Buckley gives an update on Ian as power outages are on the rise, leaving more than 40,000 people in the dark. 

9:46 p.m.-- Several homes caught on fire in Garden City, S.C. 

 

9:27 p.m.-- North Carolina A&T State University experiencing landline phone issues. 

 

9:00 p.m.-- WFMY News 2's Chief Meteorologist Tim Buckley gives an update on tropical storm Ian as 34,000 people are without power.

8:19 p.m. -- More than 60 roads closed in Randolph County. 

8:00 p.m.-- WFMY News 2's Chief Meteorologist Tim Buckley gives an update on tropical storm Ian. 

6:50 p.m. -- There are about 30,000 outages across the Triad. 

6:40 p.m. -- Downed power lines and a 100-year-old tree on a house in Summerfield. 

6:30 p.m. -- There are power outages all along US-220 in Summerfield. 

6 p.m. -- A look at conditions around Greensboro and the Triad. A tree crashed down onto a townhome. We also found many homes and businesses without power. As of this report, about 10,000 customers are without power in Guilford County.

4:45 p.m. -- Ian has weakened from a hurricane. It is now a tropical storm, with winds clocking in around 70 mph at the center. 

The Triad can expect 40-50 mph wind gusts going into the evening. 

3:50 p.m. -- Here's a look at this incredible storm surge video from Southport, NC. That's the Cape Fear River crashing up onto the port. 

3:43 p.m.-- Treat it like a four-way stop! 

3:25 p.m. -- We're live streaming the Frying Pan camera off the coast of Cape Fear, North Carolina. 

3:00 p.m. -- Chief Meteorologist Tim Buckley will have a quick update on Hurricane Ian as it approaches the Triad.

2:45 p.m. -- Ian winds knocked this tree down and onto a townhome off Regents Park Lane in Greensboro. 

2:25 p.m. -- Hurricane Ian has made landfall in Georgetown, SC -- about 45 minutes from South Carolina. 

2:20 p.m. - We're streaming the Myrtle Beach camera as Hurricane Ian is set to come ashore on the South Carolina coast. 

2 p.m. - Gov. Roy Cooper shares an update on North Carolina's response to Hurricane Ian. The category 1 storm is getting ready to come ashore in South Carolina.

1:15 p.m.-  Hurricane Ian approaches Myrtle Beach. Watch the live beach cam here:

11:05 a.m. -- We're already seeing the wind impacts from Ian in Alamance County. Several traffic lights near Elon are without power.

10:45 a.m. - Mayor Nancy Vaughan declares State of Emergency for Greensboro effective at noon.

10:35 a.m. - Several locations in Elon are without power. Duke Energy is working to address the issue.

9:18 a.m. - Winston-Salem Fire Department Search and Rescue members have been called on by NC Emergency Management for Hurricane Ian response

9 a.m. -  Ian is moving to the north with 85 mph winds as it approaches South Carolina on its way to the Triad.

8 a.m. - Update on Ian from National Hurricane Center

6:40 a.m. - Light rain starts to come into the Triad, heavier rains expected in the afternoon.

6:00 a.m. - Tropical storm warnings have been issued for several areas in North Carolina, including the Triad.
