WATCH: Helene causes house to float away in Blowing Rock

The area was devastated by flooding brought on by the storm.

BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — The scenes from Helene in western North Carolina have been at times apocolyptic.

Here's just one example, courtesy of WFMY News 2 viewer David Gibbs from his porch in Blowing Rock.

As you can see, an entire house floats by before disappearing into the distance. Despite separating from its foundation, the house remained surprisingly intact as it moved through the water.

The area of Blowing Rock saw plenty of devastation from Helene, including downed trees, broken power lines and collapsed roads. The town south of Boone is a popular destination for tourists.

CBS News has reported that at least 56 people in North Carolina have died as a result of the storm.

WMFY News 2 reporter Taylor Leverett was in Blowing Rock on Monday. You can check out her full report from the area here.
