ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) quantified their recent relief efforts for Western North Carolina in the devastating wake of Hurricane Helene.

In just a few days, Helene decimated historical parts of North Carolina, including Asheville, Brevard, Boone and more.

As of Sept. 30, FEMA has 10 federal search and rescue teams on the ground with nine more on the way, making the total 900 personnel.

Two hundred federal ambulances have been sent to NC along with two teams to help with emergency department decompression at two hospital systems, according to FEMA.

In an effort to restore cell service and aid with communications, FEMA said they provided 40 Starlink satellite systems. One Starlink will be issued per county to assist in communications infrastructure restoration.

Twenty-five trailers of meals and 60 trailers of water have been deployed for those in need, in addition to a C-17 cargo plane full of supplies. Eighteen helicopters are on standby to deliver additional supplies, according to FEMA.

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden is slated to visit Asheville amid relief efforts.
