Statement from Duke Energy's Jeff Brooks:
Right now, the winds are still coming through the Carolinas, so we do anticipate seeing outages accumulate throughout the day. We are working to restore power where we can, but when winds reach 30 miles per hour or more, we can't put our buckets in the air so that may slow some of the restorations until the winds fully exit the area.
We are still doing everything we can at this point to restore power safely and quickly. Because the storm is impacting communities across the state, we are using our local crews and then we'll be shifting crews to the hardest hit areas once winds clear the local areas.
We will evaluate our needs throughout the day and make a determination on what additional resources are needed. Fortunately, we're not seeing too many counties with large numbers of customers out at this point. Although that could change throughout the day. But there are lots of small outages as you would expect in a wind event. So that will be the more important number to look at throughout the day, I think. Number of outages and not as many numbers of customers affected.
Fallen trees and powerlines reported:
- Battleground Avenue Southbound just north of New Garden Road is down to one lane after power lines were down. The power is completely out.
- Southern Webbing Mill Road was closed between Helen Road and Alexandria Road due to trees and power lines down and it has since reopened. Duke Power has been notified.
- North Church Road
- Cone Boulevard
- Mount Hope Church Road
- Wendover Avenue near Bridford Parkway
