LIST | Schools in the Triad closed, operating remotely Friday due to severe weather threat

Due to Ian, tropical storm warnings, and its associated risks of flooding, multiple schools in the Triad are closed or operating remote Friday

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Multiple school districts in the Piedmont Triad will be closed or operating remotely Friday due to Hurricane Ian, tropical storm warnings, and its associated risks of flooding and high winds.

Here's a list of schools in the area that have announced changes.

SCHOOLS CLOSED

  • Alamance-Burlington Schools announced evening and weekend school activities are cancelled as of 8 a.m. Friday. 
  • Asheboro City Schools
  • Randolph County Schools
  • Rockingham County Schools: Rockingham County Schools announced they will close Friday. School officials tweeted childcare will open at its regular time and close at 1 p.m. All after school, evening and weekend activities will be cancelled.
  • Thomasville City Schools
  • Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools
  • UNC-Greensboro cancelled all classes Friday including all online/remote classes for the day.
  • NC A&T canceled all classes Friday

SCHOOLS OPERATING REMOTELY

  • Davidson County Schools: Davidson County Schools will operate remotely Friday. School officials said teachers will communicate objectives and expectations for the day with students by 8:30 a.m. via email
  • Davie County Schools
  • Guilford County Schools: GCS said all Friday evening activities have been canceled. "We will continue to monitor conditions and will give an update accordingly if there are any changes to Saturday activities," GCS said in a news release. Per a GCS spokesperson, should students lose connectivity due to a power outage, GCS will work with the student to make sure they don’t lose any instruction.

SCHOOLS DISMISSING EARLY

  • Mount Airy City Schools: Due to the threat of Ian, Mount Airy City Schools will dismiss early Friday. School officials said all schools will use their early dismissal schedules. Officials said Tharrington Primary will dismiss at 11:50, Jones Intermediate will dismiss at 12 noon, and Mount Airy Middle School and Mount Airy High School will dismiss at 12:30.
  • Surry County Schools will dismiss students at 1 p.m. Friday
