EF-1 Rockingham County Tornado Confirmed

A tornado touched down near Stoneville Friday afternoon from Helene

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Not only did Hurricane Helene bring devastating rainfall amounts and high winds across the Carolinas, Helene also spawned several Tornado Warnings across the Triad, mainly for Rockingham and Caswell counties starting Thursday night through Friday night. The National Weather Service team has completed a damage survey for the tornado event in Rockingham county from Friday afternoon between 3:25PM - 3:27 PM.

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touchdown 5 miles east of Stoneville, NC around 3:25PM. A tornado briefly touched down around Heffinger Road where it damaged 4 metal structures, including taking off the roof. A few trees were also blown down with solar paneling removed from the roof of a home. The tornado travelled around 0.35 miles for two minutes (ending around 3:27PM). It's estimated peak wind was between 90-95 mph. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities.
