Hurricane Ernesto could bring a current rip risk at NC beaches

If you're planning on going to the NC beaches this weekend, make sure you and your family/friends know how to escape a rip current.
A teenage girl died on Sunday from rip currents at Ocean Isle Beach in Brunswick County.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Though we aren't expecting rain and wind, Ernesto could be a rip current generator for the coastline. 

A strong swell from the hurricane combined with a higher-than-normal tide, and potentially nice beach weather, may take some for a dangerous combination at many NC beaches. 

A high risk of rip currents is likely especially for some of the beaches. 

If you plan to visit the beach, pay attention to the flags and attend a lifeguarded beach if possible. Remember, red flags mean don't go in the water.
