GREENSBORO, N.C. —

Rain returns to the Triad

Rain has been hard to come by across the Piedmont the last few weeks. April was one of the drier months our area has seen over the last several years. We only received 1.23" of rain. In the latest drought report, abnormally dry conditions have spread across the entirety of central NC. The good news? Rain is on the way this weekend!

A cold front will approach the Carolinas this weekend and likely stall across the Carolinas. Isolated shower and storm chances are in the cards even for Friday evening, though most of us will remain dry. Severe weather isn't likely, but a few storms could pack a punch in regards to lightning and downpours.

The real rain chances return this weekend as the cold front stalls across central NC tonight. A scattered strong storm or two is also possible but severe weather is unlikely at this time.

NOTE: Be careful with outdoor plans this weekend as they likely will need to be brought inside by occasional scattered showers or a pop up storm for Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures over the weekend will be much cooler; highs will be in the mid 70s Saturday and Sunday.

Models are suggesting we could receive up to an inch or two in some area, benefitting our dry soils and parched plants across the area. Much needed! As for next week, storm chances are still in the mix Monday but we will dry out by the middle of the week with temperatures back in the deep 80s to near 90!
