Raleigh, N.C. – Raleigh, N.C. – The threat of even more flooding in the eastern and central part of our state is far from over.
Gov. Pat McCrory said, “Hurricane Matthew may be off the map, but it is still with us.”
National Guard troops, swift water rescue teams, and helo-aquatic teams are performing rescues around the clock. State leaders are asking everyone to stay off flooded roads and be safe.

More than 1,000 people have been rescued. At least 700 rescues were made in Cumberland County alone. More than 430 North Carolina National Guard troops are on their way to help with rescues.
So far, there have been at least nine storm-related fatalities in North Carolina related to vehicles trying to pass flooded roads.
Torrential rains flooded roads across the state. But there’s even more of a concern for additional flooding.
The National Weather Service is forecasting major river flooding across eastern North Carolina through early to mid-week, with potential record levels along the Neuse River.
Major flooding is expected along the:
• Neuse River in Clayton, Smithfield, Goldsboro and Kinston;
• Cape Fear River at Fayetteville;
• Little River in Cumberland County;
• Lumber River near Lumberton;
• Tar River in Rocky Mount, Tarboro and Greenville
• Cashie River near Windsor
• Rockfish Creek at Raeford
• Town Creek at Pine Tops
• Stony Creek at Rocky Mount
• Crabtree Creek in Raleigh
• Chowan River in Edenton
Flooding is a serious danger as well in Fayetteville as the area received 12 inches of a rain as a result of Hurricane Matthew. That’s in addition to 6 to 10 inches of rain last week.
The Neuse River is also of particular concern below Raleigh.
Governor McCrory announced that 300 North Carolina National Guard troops and 105 high water vehicles have been deployed to assist with rescues. More National Guard resources are expected to deploy on Sunday.
Dam safety has also been a concern with dams that have breached at Rhodes Lake Dam in Cumberland County. A levee break also occurred at Luther Park in Robeson County. There was also a break at Silver Lake dam that’s sending a large amount of water in Lake Wilson.
More than 75 emergency shelters have opened in the central and eastern part of the state.
