Greensboro Had to Flow out 1.3 Million Gallons of Wastewater From Florence Rains

The city says Florence rain caused Middle Reedy Fork Creek to flood, causing the treatment station to shut down.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- 1.3 million gallons of untreated sewage water from Greensboro is on its way to the Cape Fear River basin.

City of Greensboro officials say there was so much rain from Florence, they had to flow out the wastewater from Reed Fork Lift Station, located on McLeansville Road. The discharge happened on September 17 for about an entire day.

The city says Florence rain caused Middle Reedy Fork Creek to flood the facility causing the station to shut down resulting in the overflow.

The untreated wastewater entered Middle Reedy Fork Creek - a tributary of the Cape Fear River basin.

The city says the downstream area was thoroughly inspected with no impact being found.
