ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking qualified businesses to bid on state contracts related to storm debris removal, roadway construction and rebuilding of traffic infrastructure. It will take several billion dollars to restore roads, bridges and other transportation infrastructure damaged during Helene, according to the NCDOT.
"There is debris to be moved, roads and bridges to be designed, fixed or rebuilt, as well as other types of contract work to be done," Joey Hopkins, the state's transportation secretary, says in a released statement. "We’re going to need a lot of help to rebuild western North Carolina.”
On Oct. 29 and Oct. 30, the NCDOT will host six in-person workshops in Buncombe County to educate potential contractors on requirements, the application process, and necessary documentation.
Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Oct. 29 from Noon - 3 p.m.
Oct. 29 from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Oct. 30 from Noon - 3 p.m.
Oct. 30 from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Each Buncombe County workshop will be hosted at the NCDOT Division 13 Office at 55 Orange St. in Asheville. Registration is required and limited to two persons per firm. Register is required online.
Outside of Buncombe County, the state will also offer workshops in Fayetteville and Rocky Mount:
Oct. 24 from 1-4 p.m. at NCDOT’s Division 6 Training Room, located in Building 511 at 558 Gillespie St. in Fayetteville
Nov. 14 from 1-4 p.m. at Nash Community College in Room 8123 of the Continuing Education Building at 522 North Old Carriage Road in Rocky Mount
Participation in any work session is not required to become prequalified.
