NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Governor Roy Cooper announced Thursday that more than $14 million has been donated to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund since Hurricane Helene struck Western North Carolina earlier this fall.
Donations have come from across the U.S. and around the world, offering vital support to storm recovery efforts. These contributions are already funding nonprofit organizations working on immediate relief for storm victims.
“The road to recovery from Hurricane Helene is steep and challenging, but North Carolina is determined to succeed, and every one of these donations helps,” Cooper said. “We are heartened to see so many people continuing to support Western North Carolina, and we are deeply grateful for each dollar donated.”
So far, donations have funded grants totaling $841,606 to 86 organizations in 29 storm-affected counties. Nonprofits based in Western North Carolina are encouraged to apply for immediate needs grants through the United Way of North Carolina. After the immediate needs are met, the remaining funds will go toward long-term recovery grants managed by the North Carolina Community Foundation.
